Fracture Repair

Fracture management requires careful assessment of the patient, fracture configuration and biological factors to achieve the best possible outcome.

What if I suspect my patient has an end stage joint?

Arthrodesis

Joint arthrodesis is a salvage procedure used when a joint is no longer functional due to severe trauma, instability, chronic pain or advanced osteoarthritis. By surgically fusing the affected joint, pain can be eliminated while maintaining a functional limb. ParaVet Care performs partial and pancarpal, partial and pantarsal arthrodesis where appropriate, using modern fixation techniques to achieve stable fusion and optimise patient comfort.

Can we restore limbs that are severely angled?

Angular Limb Deformities

Angular limb deformities may develop following growth plate injuries, congenital abnormalities or asynchronous bone growth, resulting in limb deformity, altered joint loading and lameness. Careful assessment and pre-operative planning are essential to determine the most appropriate corrective procedure.
Paravet Care offers surgical management of selected angular limb deformities, with the aim of improving limb alignment, restoring function and reducing the risk of long-term joint disease.

What can we offer if the limb injuries are too severe to be repaired?

Amputation

Limb amputation may be recommended for patients with severe trauma, non-reconstructable injuries, chronic pain or certain bone and soft tissue tumours. Although often considered a last resort, most dogs and cats adapt remarkably well following amputation and go on to enjoy an excellent quality of life.
