Referral Process

For Veterinary Practices
ParaVet Care works alongside first-opinion veterinary practices to provide experienced surgical support without the need for a full referral of patients away from your clinic.
1. Discuss the case
Get in touch by phone or email to discuss the patient and the clinical concerns. We can review the history, examination findings and diagnostic imaging to determine whether ParaVet Care is appropriate for the case.
Case discussion is always welcome, even if you’re unsure whether surgery or referral is the right option.
2. Plan the surgery
Once surgery has been agreed, we’ll work with your team to develop an appropriate treatment plan.
We’ll discuss:
- The recommended procedure
- Anaesthetic and peri-operative considerations
- Equipment and instrumentation requirements
- Expected costs
- Post-operative care
- Any additional diagnostics that may be required
3. Surgery at your practice
On the agreed day, ParaVet Care comes to your practice to perform the procedure.
We work alongside your veterinary and nursing team, using your facilities and equipment wherever appropriate.
4. Ongoing care remains with you
Following surgery, the patient returns to the care of your practice for routine post-operative monitoring and rehabilitation.
Where appropriate, we’ll provide a detailed surgical report and post-operative recommendations, and remain available to discuss the case during recovery.

For Pet Owners who have been referred
If your veterinary surgeon has recommended ParaVet Care, it means they would like additional surgical expertise to help manage your pet’s condition.
Unlike a traditional referral to a distant referral hospital, ParaVet Care provides surgical support within your own veterinary practice, where possible.
1. Your vet discusses the options
Your own veterinary surgeon will discuss your pet’s condition with you and explain why surgical support may be recommended.
They will arrange the referral to ParaVet Care on your behalf.
2. We review your pet’s case
Before surgery, we’ll review your pet’s history, clinical findings and any diagnostic imaging.
Where appropriate, we’ll discuss the treatment options with your veterinary team and explain the recommended procedure.
3. Surgery takes place at your own practice
ParaVet Care visits your veterinary practice to perform the surgery.
This means your pet can be treated in a familiar environment, without the need to travel to an unfamiliar referral centre.
4. Your vet remains involved
Your usual veterinary team continues to look after your pet before and after surgery.
They remain responsible for your pet’s ongoing care, while ParaVet Care provides the surgical input and post-operative guidance where required.
Our priority is your pet’s wellbeing
Every patient is assessed individually, and surgery is only recommended when it is considered an appropriate option.
We’ll work alongside your veterinary team to ensure you understand the proposed procedure, expected recovery and any potential risks.
